The young Gabrielle, or Coco as she soon became known, spends her days as a seamstress and her nights as a cabaret entertainer where she catches the eye of a wealthy playboy.
Before long, she moves to his country estate to serve as his friend, lover and style consultant. In this lavish world where women indulge themselves, she begins experimenting with clothing and outfits that are flatteringly simple. Soon she meets an English friend of her lover, and he charms and encourages her to strike out on her own.
For a film that is about fashion, Coco Before Chanel is most concerned with showing how how a young woman with nothing more than style and courage became one of the most legendary figures in 20th century culture.
